Dr Mary Ann Johnson is an oesophageal and gastric surgeon for benign and cancerous conditions in Melbourne. She is passionate about surgical excellence and quality of life after surgery. While she has a broad experience in many aspects of general surgery, her subspecialty interests include achalasia, oesophageal and gastric cancer, gallstones, groin hernias, reflux, gastric ulcers, abdominal wall hernias, hiatus hernias and diaphragmatic hernias.
Her main surgical and teaching interests are techniques for gallbladder surgery, hernia surgery, gastroscopy, ERCP and advanced oesophageal and gastric surgery, in particular oesophageal and gastric cancer. She teaches on RACS courses (ASSET and CcRISP). She currently holds a professional advisory position on the St Vincent's Hospital human research ethics committee and is also a member of the clinical policy review committee. She has demonstrated her passion for research by presenting nationally and internationally. Her current research interests are improving quality of life for patients who have major oesophago-gastric surgery.
