Mr Simon Banting

MBBS, FRACS

Mr Banting is a general surgeon with specialist expertise in the field of liver, pancreatic and biliary (HPB) surgery.  In addition to his clinical role, Mr Banting also serves as both the Head of Surgery and Director of HPB & UGI Surgery at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne.  

Mr Banting’s affiliation with St Vincent’s began as a medical student and continued throughout his internship, residency and surgical training.  After attaining his general surgical fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1990, Mr Banting became the inaugural fellow in HPB surgery under the tutelage of Mr Ivo Vellar. 

Following this, he continued his post-fellowship speciality training in both Dundee and Edinburgh.  During this period, in addition to HPB skills, Mr Banting also became proficient in laparoscopy and ERCP. 

Outside of the hospital, Mr Banting has served as the Chief Examiner in General Surgery for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He has been actively involved in research and teaching over his career, publishing widely in surgical journals as well as presenting at numerous national and international meetings.  Mr Banting offers specialist HPB support to the Gippsland region.
